Praise for 'An Extra-Ordinary Beginning'

Try this book and you will grow to love the well conceived characters and seek out their new adventures, (5 STARS)
There are some great filmic scenes that I just had to read again to enjoy them twice! Have recommended many times for emerging readers too who are beginning to explore a good story construction and the concept of a cliff hanger. A top read!  Ruth Ward (amazon.co.uk)
I loved this book! (5 STARS)
This was a great book! The beginning was a little slow, but keep reading because it gets really exciting! It had a good plot that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. It was about two children called Eric and Ursula. They're brought together when Eric's parents decide to come up with a suitable friend for Eric because they're going on a second honeymoon that will last eight months. The parents decide to have a puzzle contest run in the paper.  The only thing I didn't like (besides the bad guys using bad language), was that there were some typos, like "You're mother and I" should have been "Your mother and I", etc.  I'm looking forward to reading the next book!  Foxglove (amazon.com)
Adventure (5 STARS)
This first novel is a very easy read and exteremely entertaining, from the fact that my wife our son and two granddaughters have read and enjoyed this book shows that it is great for all ages.  Amazon Customer (amazon.co.uk)
Fantastic Read (5 STARS)
What a fantastic read! Engaging from the first page, with a plot that twists and turns as it leads the reader through the story. Going to pass it on to the kids to read now I've finished!  DaveGilbert (amazon.co.uk)
The Adventures of Eric and Ursula (5 STARS)
This is a gripping book with fast flowing action and twists and turns where you'd least expect them! Behind the scenes lurk the unexpected and the reader is engaged fully in the plot. But apart from the intrigue and the action lies a gentle hand in dealing with childrens' pain, loss and isolation. I recommend this book to parents and children alike; to anyone who dares to be different. School Libraries - you need this one in your arsenal! Can't wait for Book 2!  Ger (amazon.co.uk)
Very Promising Start (5 STARS)
Really enjoyed this after a slow start. The initial scenes are a little confusing to my mind - but stick with it and you are soon embroiled in a fast-paced absorbing plot which twists and turns without ever spinning out of control. The character lines I thought were really strong too - with the stand out characters coming alive even within the pacy plot and constant changes of location (which I confess I found a little distracting).  There are some great touches of empathy with youngsters and situations which draw the reader into taking sides and really hoping for the right outcome - a must for the younger reader. Intriguingly we will have to wait for the sequels - but based on this opener, they promise to be well worth the wait.   A really worthy debut.  Rowse59 (amazon.co.uk)
Excellent Read (5 STARS)
An excellent and well written book by a budding young author with a lot of potential.  The first in a series, I am very excited to read the following ones.  Jeremy (amazon.com)
An Extraordinary Beginning!! (4 STARS)
As an English teacher it is always great to come across a book that you know will engage and excite young readers. 'An Extra-ordinary Beginning' has all the key ingredients to do this: a fast-flowing plot with more exciting locations that a James Bond movie; compelling main characters who have universal appeal (it is particularly refreshing to see a savvy, super-intelligent black girl as one of the main protagonists!) and strong themes such as identity, family and friendship that young readers will identify with. Yes - this first novel could do with some slicker editing in places - but overall this is a seductive first installment to the trilogy. I'm ready for the second book!   Sam Pesova (amazon.co.uk)

Read this book for excitement and adventure!  (5 stars)
I finished reading this book yesterday and was blown away by the development of the characters, the twists and turns of the plot and the scope of the story. A fine follow up on the first instalment which is available (digitally) for free.  The Adventures of Eric and Ursula are adventures of the highest order. It is an international superhero tale led by two children, Eric (A rich and Ursula who have ordinary motivations living in an extra-ordinary world.   What would you do if you found out you could perform super-human feats of strength, speed and intelligence? What would you do if those powers came at a mortal cost?  I can't recommend this series of books higher and the author is one to watch for the future.    Anthony Constable (amazon.co.uk)

5 stars
The second book in the Adventure of Eric and Ursula starts off where the last one finished and it's not long until the action kicks in as the children and support team continue trying to avoid capture by the OSS and to find ways of preventing their premature ageing. A wonderfully easy to read book yet again from A D Winch and this time we learn more about the background of some of the key support characters while, at the same time, more questions and mysteries are inferred about their past. The author also manages to project the insecurities of the two children as they struggle in different ways with the constraints imposed on their lives by the ordeals they are forced to contend with. The book ends in such a manner that leaves the reader wanting episode 3 to be available immediately, in order to continue with the adventure. I for one will most definitely be continuing on this path!   (Gary Warke)

The adventure continues... (5 stars)
I was looking forward to this second book from A.D Winch. The first book, 'The Extraordinary Adventures of Eric and Ursula', had me gripped from the start. It not only left me wanting to find out what was going to happen to these two, young heroes, but also had me guessing about the back story of some of the other characters This second book takes us along on Eric and Ursula's further adventures, revisiting and getting to learn more about the great locations featured in the first book, and also some interesting new ones. The action sequences on the train had me hooked! There was lots of new and revealing back story for some of the other characters, but to my frustration, we are still kept guessing about one of the enigmatic main characters! We will just have to wait for the next installment!
Although the pace slows towards the middle of the story - perhaps intentionally so as the characters find themselves hold up in a remote setting for a period of time - it picks up again and doesn't allow you to stop reading (and sleep!) until you find out what happens. Even then, it's not what you expect... Can't wait for the next part of the story!   (Mrs SN)
