After a while I realised I had forgotten about copying the files as I had been sucked into the story. I decided to print out the entire book and read it again. This was back in December 2011.
Even though I had written the story, and I knew how it was going to end, there was so much that I had forgotten. I really enjoyed reading Eric and Ursula's adventures and this was really surprising to me. Normally I never return to something that I have written or filmed as all I can see are errors and I find it embarrassing. This time I did not find reading my own writing embarrassing at all. On the contrary, I was really pleased with what I had written. I did still see errors (and I am still seeing them!) but I could see they were all solvable.
The three years between writing the book and reading it had given me fresh eyes. I was able to constructively criticise my writing, pinpoint the pieces I liked and I felt I was in a position to improve the original draft.
