On Wednesday 22.4.2015 the author Antony Winch came to our Vaclav Havel theatre to give a talk about the History of Writing to our Year 4, 6 and 7 students. It is thought that the history of writing began about 5000 years ago and the students learned what would happen if there had been no writing at all. They were given a chance to demonstrate with a blank sheet of white paper and discovered that without words there will be no drama, computers, PC games or even school.
Antony then visited our Primary Library, where he gave a series of workshops to our students on Style and Language for Year 6, how to create characters in writing to Year 7 students and ways of creating plots and structure to our Year 4 students. Students were really creative with the Story Dice. They were given two subjects to show how to create a story. First was to write a romantic story and then a horror story. The students enjoyed creating the stories and for a few minutes Year 6 were given the opportunity to enact their own book characters.
They were also given an opportunity to ask lots of professional and personal questions. Antony also visited our school on Thursday to have a workshop with our Year 5 students too. I would like to take this opportunity and thank Antony and the teachers and students for creating such an interesting, friendly and creative space in our school for the whole morning. I would love to see some stories in the Literacy corner, so if you would like to write a short story about any subject with a chance to get it published in our newsletter, please do not hesitate to hand it in to me. Have a great weekend,
