If you have read or watched 'The Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins you'll recognise that 'Boy on Fire' is a reference to Katniss Everdeen, the main character. The Hunger Games are super books but are they children's books? Some of the themes are very dark and the violence is horrific. My neice, who was 12 at the time she read them, thought the books were great and has not been scarred.
This thought occurred to me this week as I wrote a scene which I found very unpleasant. It took me a lot longer than normal as I struggled to find the correct tone and right language. I want it to be unpleasant and I want it to be horrific but I don't want to scar people or put them off their tea.
I'll just have to wait not Until Book 3 is released (I am aiming for June or Septemter 2014). After that I am sure I'll find out whether I got it right or not.
