From November 2012 to October 2013 'An Extra-Ordinary Beginning' was averaging 1 purchase/download every 3.37 days.
From November 2013 until now 'An Extra-Ordinary Beginning' is averaging 1 purchases/download every 0.39 days. In other words, every 9 hours someone purchases/downloads my book.
The reason I discovered this was because of something that happened over Christmas. Every week, I track how many people visit my website, which pages they visit, where they are from and how many copies of my book they download. I track this information using Google Analytics. Up until Christmas, I thought this data was accurate but then I looked in more depth and discovered that the numbers just don't add up. So, I did some investigating and found out that the data Google provides is based on samples and is accurate to within 10% and 80%. In other words, it is inaccurate! Have a look at Ryan Chase's blog if you want to find out more. As a consequence I looked at all the data I have (amazon, smashwords, tes) to find out how many of my books people are, hopefully, reading.
If I use Google Analytic data as well then I am either averaging:
- 1 purchase/download every 0.30 days or every 7 hours or
- 1 purchase/download every 0.15 days or every 3.5 hours
I imagine the correct figure for purchases/download is between 1 every 3.5 hours and 1 every 9 hours. This makes me smile!
